The on-board camera is a core perception component of automotive assisted driving (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems, responsible for capturing key information such as road conditions and identifying obstacles, which directly affects driving safety and the accuracy of intelligent driving.
As a key sealing component of automotive lenses, the sealing ring plays three core roles:
1.Isolate external contaminants (such as dust, water vapor, oil stains) to prevent the optical performance of the lens from being affected;
2.Buffer vibration and pressure to ensure the stable operation of the lens in the complex environment of vehicle operation;
3.Adapt to the automated assembly process to ensure the precise fit between the lens and the vehicle body components. Therefore, the quality of the sealing ring is directly related to the service life of the on-board camera, the clarity of the image and the reliability of the intelligent driving system, which is of vital importance to the field of automotive safety.

Common problems with automotive lens sealing rings
In the practical application of automotive lenses, sealing rings are prone to five keyissues?that directly affect the performance and assembly efficiency of the lenses
|
|
Surface contamination issue: If there are lint, foreign impurities or waste adhering to the surface of the sealing ring, it will directly contaminate the optical lens of the lens, causing blurred imaging, reduced light transmittance and affecting the accuracy of road condition recognition.
Dimensional tolerance issue: The dimensional tolerance of the sealing ring is too large, failing to meet the designed compression requirement, which leads to the failure of the sealing performance. External moisture and dust seep into the interior of the lens, causing lens failure.
Squeezing oil leakage problem: After the sealing ring is squeezed during assembly, oil leakage occurs. The oil stains can contaminate the surface of the lens, damage the optical performance, and even cause permanent damage to the lens.
High-temperature volatilization issue: After the sealing ring is exposed to high-temperature evaporation (such as in the high-temperature environment of a car or when the lens is working and generating heat), it releases volatile molecules that adhere to the surface of the lens, forming a fog-like contamination that affects the clarity of the image.
Automation adaptation issue: The hardness or surface texture of the sealing ring is inappropriate, causing agglomeration in the vibrating tray of the automated assembly and preventing smooth separation and feeding, which leads to the shutdown of the assembly line and affects production efficiency.

The causes of the problem
The root causes of the five types of problems can be analyzed from three dimensions:material properties, production processes, and design management
|
|
The causes of surface contamination: The core is that the raw materials themselves are contaminated (such as mixed impurities, particles), or the semi-finished products come into contact with contaminants during the production process (such as equipment oil stains, environmental dust), and have not undergone effective cleaning treatment.
The reasons for dimensional tolerance: First, the precision of the mold is insufficient, resulting in dimensional deviations of the product during forming; The second is that the manufacturing process is not strictly controlled (such as unstable vulcanization temperature and pressure); The third issue is the fluctuation of material shrinkage rate. The mold parameters were not adjusted according to the material properties, which eventually led to dimensional deviations.
The reasons for oil leakage during extrusion: The material formula design is unreasonable. The base material or additives (such as plasticizers) selected have poor compatibility. When subjected to extrusion force, oil is easily extracted, resulting in oil leakage.
The cause of high-temperature volatilization: The material formula contains low-boiling-point components (such as small-molecule volatile substances), which are prone to volatilization in high-temperature environments and have not undergone strict high-temperature stability tests, resulting in volatile molecules contaminating the lens.
The reasons for the automatic adaptation are as follows: First, the material formula design does not match the working conditions of the vibrating disc (such as excessively high or low hardness); The second reason is improper surface treatment of the mold, which leads to abnormal friction on the product surface. Thirdly, the surface of the product was not treated for anti-sticking, which eventually led to the problem of agglomeration.
